Whipped Body Butter
This is a very simple recipe for whipped body butter that I make every year. I tend to double or triple the batch if I’m planning to give some away as gifts. I prefer to omit essential oils, but I use olive oil that’s been infused with chamomile or another skin-soothing herb from my garden, and sometimes the scent from the herbs I use will come through in the lotion. Typically the prevailing scent is from the cocoa butter, which I think is subtle and cozy.
I like to store my whipped body butter in short, wide-mouth mason jars which I keep in the fridge. This keeps the oils fresher longer. Enjoy.
Whipped Body Butter Recipe
1 cup olive oil (I used herb-infused, like chamomile)
1 cup coconut oil
1 cup cocoa butter
1 cup shea butter
Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a saucepan or double-boiler over medium-low heat until melted. Add the olive oil and stir to combine.
Move the mixture to the refrigerator and refrigerate for an hour. You want it to solidify completely, but you don’t want it to have fully hardened, so if you check and it’s still not solid all the way through, keep checking every 20-30 minutes until it has.
Once hardened, place the mixture in the bowl of a stand mixer with the whip attachment, and whip until light and fluffy, and scoop into mason jars. Top with lids, and store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use or gift.
Notes:
If your body butter solidifies too much in the fridge (as mine has in the video), scrape layers off with a metal spoon. It’ll still whip, but it’s more time consuming.
My recipe makes a soft body butter that melts easily. If you want a firmer product, increase your cocoa and shea butter amounts to 1 ¼ cups each.
